About Jeff
Jeffrey Chand was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. His parents are both from Fiji and he has one brother Chris. After studying biology at UNBC in Prince George, BC, he decided to follow the study of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and acupuncture. He interrupted his studies for a brief trip to Taiwan where he furthered his knowledge of martial arts and Qi Gong. Jeffrey began his Traditional Chinese Medicine practice in 2000 and was one of the first officially licensed acupuncturists in BC. He currently practices in Victoria, BC. Although this is the first adventure race Jeff is participating in he has completed 2 marathons, triathlons, and numerous road races. He began training in March of 2006 for the event on a 6 day on 1 day off schedule with his running coach Mike Suminski. He is lucky to have such a beautiful city to run in such as Victoria! He incorporated weight training 3 days a week to help keep balanced throughout the process. Mike also taught Jeffrey the importance of target heart rate training, hill training (disguised speed work), and mental training. Jeffrey was also busy this summer getting married! Jeffrey and Kristina Hanson got married on August 12th, 2006 in what he claims as "the best wedding I've ever been to!" Other interests include martial arts, qi gong, surfing, and music. Last summer Jeffrey released a DVD called "Qi Gong for Healthy, Longevity and Vitality." He gathered the best aspects of martial arts, tai chi, stretching, strength exercises, breathing, and meditation and condensed it into an 18 minute routine to practice daily. See here for more details. After the Racing the Planet event Jeffrey plans to produce his first music CD so stay tuned! |
